The Sheepskin Boot

There’s most certainly a rich history behind this iconic Aussie footwear, known within Australia as an UGG boot but around the world (due to a trademark issue) as a more generic sheepskin boot if not sold by UGG®. This style is made from double faced sheepskin with fleece on the inside and a tanned exterior. The softness of the authentic Australian Merino sheepskin produces luxurious and comfortable footwear that are perfect for both indoor and outdoor wear. The fleece lining has natural insulation properties that allow air to circulate, keeping feet at body temperature.

In the 1960s, they were seen on the feet of surfers from the Gold Coast to Sydney beaches and also throughout the West Coast of Australia. It wasn’t long before some of the surfers who traded in their surf boards for snow skis in the winter discovered that their sheepskin boots were just as at home in the Snowy Mountains as they were in the warm sands of Sydney’s Bondi Beach. In the 1970s, Australian surfers introduced the sheepskin boots to the surfing communities in Southern California and they quickly became a cult fashion trend among competitive surfers, donning colours including black, tan and brown.

Some manufacturers use lower grade sheepskin, synthetic materials or use wool that has been sewn into a synthetic lining. Wild Wool™ only uses genuine A-Grade merino sheepskin from Australia and New Zealand.
